drumroll please….
MVP Volleyball and MVC Volleyball Club are proud to announce that their coaching initiative has received support with a Canadian Tire Jump Start Community Development Grant
It all started when…
In 2013 the Mountain Volleyball Club and the St Mary’s Volleyball Program began an informal program to enhance the level of coaching in its developmental programs. By 2015 MVC and MVP (both registered non-for-profits) formally designed a unique program to support the leadership interests of its’ club athletes; the Mountain Volleyball Coaching Certification Program or MVCCP.
This new program was aimed at teaching passionate young women athletes to become community and eventually club coaches. Modelled after the old National Coaching Certification Program, MVCCP candidates develop a portfolio that has technical (volleyball), theoretical (teaching and learning) practical (on court) aspects of coaching. Mentored coaches then get to apply their skills in a practical way by acting as assistant coaches in the various MVP house league, summer camp, Volleytotz or other volleyball programs.
Presently, the female athletes that opted to become part of this program span 10 to 18 years.
MVCCP have provided technical, coaching, and financial support to almost 60 female athlete-coaches to help them achieve their qualifications in the National Coaching Certification Program.
This program has become so successful, MVCCP head coaches were selected and trained by the Coaching Association of Ontario as mentor coaches for “Changing the Game, Changing the Conversation" an initiative to reduce barriers to women participating and coaching in sport.
MVC and MVP are now proud to announce that their coaching initiative has received support with a Canadian Tire Jump Start Community Development Grant. With support from Jumpstart and the Government of Ontario, which is investing up to $1 million through Jumpstart to promote active recreation in Ontario, we’ll be able to continue to recruit and develop energetic young women in their pursuit of making a lifelong contribution to the sport community
